Ptaszyna Najświętszéj – Bird of Blessed Virgin

okladka albumu macieja wirmanskiego ptaszyna najswietszej z nagraniami terenowymi skowronka

I would like to present to you a recording that was made in April 2024 in the fields, meadows and pastures stretching between Czarny Dunajec, Wróblówka, and Puścizna Rękowiańska.

On that day I decided to go to the area of the Orawsko-Nowotarskie Wetlands to try to record tooting black grouse. The population of these hens is unfortunately sparse, so I tried not to go too deep into the territory of their potential occurrence and record them from afar. Unfortunately that day, I did not manage to record them. This silence can be heard along with the first song “Before Dawn”. This recording was made between 3:00 and 4:00 in the morning.

As dawn broke, delivery trucks began to pull out onto the nearby National Road 958, and larks began to rise into the sky. I took the title of the next two pieces, “Birds of the Blessed Virgin,” from an 1882 booklet on larks by Kazimierz Wodzicki.

If you listen closely you can also hear snipe, roe deer and foxes from beyond the distant silence, traffic and countless larks.

Enjoy!
