On July 10, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. at Kino Miejsce (2 Orkana St., Zakopane), there will be the premiere of the documentary film “Kumotry,” directed by Emilia Śniegoska, which I had the pleasure of helping to create.
“Kumotry” is the story of a friendship between women living in a dying Polish village in the Romanian Carpathians. Hanka and Bronka have already buried their husbands, and their children have left for abroad in search of different, better prospects. These self-reliant and independent women impress with their cheerfulness, even as their reality inexorably fades into the past.
This nostalgic film delights with its unpretentious humor and cinematography that captures the charm of the Carpathian foothills. The director has created a moving film about memory, friendship, and the passage of time. This portrait of two women who mean everything to each other encourages us to reevaluate our priorities and view reality from a different perspective.
Following the screening, there will be a Q&A with the film’s creators:
Katarzyna Szczerba – sound engineer and editor
