I mastered this album: Kurzeja / Kurzeja, „Pieśni ulotne”

As Radosław Kurzeja writes:

“Pieśni ulotne” (Fleeting Songs) is a collaborative album made by me (Radosław Kurzeja) and my dear brother, Przemysław Kurzeja, who passed away far too soon. It is composed of guitar sketches, scraps, and fragments he left behind. I wove them into a tribute to his memory. Although we played together countless times, we never managed to fully record any song.

This album probably doesn’t sound exactly the way Przemek would have wanted it to, but I made it the best way I knew how. I believe — and hope — that he likes the final result.

All the tracks feature Przemek’s guitar recordings; some also include his vocals and our joint improvisations. The album’s soundscape is complemented by synthesizer textures based on these sounds, field recordings from walks in places dear to us (especially Miejska Góra in Stary Sącz), as well as some of his favourite sounds — thunderstorms, rain, and the sound of grass being mown with a traditional scythe.

I invited the people closest to Przemek to participate. Our parents, Stanisława and Tadeusz, sing on the track “Lament i Sen” (Lament and Dream). On “Lśnią” (They Shine), family and friends quote the legendary line from the band Armia: „Gdzie ja tam będziesz Ty”  (“Where I am, there you will be.”)

Two elements of “Pieśni ulotne” come from dreams, and both were gifts from Przemek: the melody in the final section of “Lament i Sen” (Lament and Dream), and the album cover, inspired by one that Przemek showed me in a dream.
